Pensions

This year 2.9 billion will be paid to around 600 000 citizens who receive SODRA retirement pensions. Around 200 000 citizens will receive approx. 500 million in disability pensions, and a total of 250 000 people will be paid approx. 108 million in survivor’s and orphan’s pensions. This year a total of 82 million will be paid as compensations for reduced pensions and a total of 251 million will be allocated for personal pension savings.

Sickness and maternity (paternity) benefits

This year expenditure on sickness and maternity (paternity) benefits will amount to 557 million euro.

Unemployment support

This year Sodra unemployment benefits will amount to 138 million euro. Additionally, around 453 million will be spent on employment assistance measures such as job subsidies, vocational training, and other.

Other social security

This year 130 million will be allocated for state pensions and 296 million for social allowances. Benefits for children will amount to 87 million. Additional 16 million will be allocated for the Children’s Maintenance Fund and 340 million will be spent on other social benefits.

Health care

Each year over 1,1 billion euro of taxpayers’ money is spent on health care services. Additionally, around 292 million is spent on medicines and medical supplies and approximately 194 million is allocated for other health care expenditure (health programs, orthopedic devices, health insurance administration, etc.)

Education and science

This year 582 million will be allocated for school education and 262 million for other education-related expenditure (pre-primary education, non-formal education, etc.)

Interest on national debt

In the end of 2017 Lithuania’s national debt will be 17,5 billion euro. Over the last decade expenditure on public debt interest has tripled. The interest amount on public debt paid by one person will be 200 euro.

This year EU membership will cost around 395 million euro. However, Lithuania will receive around 2,1 billion euro from the EU.

There are 60 municipalities in Lithuania. They are responsible for environmental management, assistance to low-income citizens, maintenance of local roads and streets, pre-school and school buildings, etc.
